Cruisin' on a Super Sunday

 Howdy friends and family!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday on land and at sea as well. Ronnie wasn’t sure if we’d be able to watch the game or not, but as it turns out there’s a Superbowl party onboard and I’m quite sure we’ll be attending. Supposedly they will have all types of game food being served in the Insignia lounge as well.

Location-wise, we’re at the southern tip of Chile and we’ll be sailing through the Chilean fjords today and also tomorrow. Last night and this morning the sea was pretty rough. This is only the second time I’ve seen the barf bags come out since we left San Francisco, and this morning the Cruise Director was reminding everyone to wear flat shoes and hold on to the stair rails as they moved about the ship. We both were feeling a bit queasy so we took a Meclizine to settle our tummies. Thankfully, by noon our ship had reached calm seas as we began moving through the channels.

The skies have cleared this afternoon but the weather has turned really chilly. Ronnie bundled up to run on the deck and he said the few people who were up there were bundled up in big coats. Yes, it is cold but the sea is beautiful and very calm!

The route we’re on is mostly used by vessels who want to avoid the heavy seas and bad weather that is often experienced on passing into the Pacific Ocean from the western end of the Strait of Magellan. Tomorrow we’ll be at sea; the following day we’ll be in Punta Arenas and after that we’ll be headed for the Drake Passage. I'm a little excited but apprehensive about it at the same time.

We're currently just above Punta Arenas (slightly off this map) but we'll be on this map tomorrow.

Here's the view off of our deck this afternoon.

Re: Super Bowl LV11- True confession: I had to ask Ronnie what teams were playing (ha!) so obviously I don't have a favorite. So I'll just say "May the best team win!"

  1. After enjoying this post, I did some extra reading on the Strait of Magellan and Drake Passage. Wow, I had no idea about those maritime challenges! Hope you will be able to capture some of the fabled lighthouses.

    1. Wouldn't that be awesome! I'm looking forward to these next 3 days with equal parts anticipation (scenery) and dread (motion sickness). I'm debating between "the patch" and Meclizine. But for today it's smooth sailing...

  2. Jan - I have been having trouble with Internet- have tried several times to send comments…
The statues the people have erected both here and the one in Equador (fishermen) to their daily work are not only beautiful but meaningful!

    1. I agree about the statues! And I understand all about internet issues - especially at sea! PS When you click on "reply" if you wait a second you'll see on the right "anonymous" or name/URL and you can put your name in there, then hit continue. Hope this helps!
