Buenos Aires, Argentina

Today and tomorrow we are in port in Buenos Aires, the capital and primary city of Argentina. The name Buenos Aires means ‘fair winds’ or ‘good airs’ and the city was named after the Madonna of Bonaria in Sardinia, Italy.

Buenos Aires and its surrounding area is the 4th most populous metropolitan area in the Americas and has a population of around 15.6 million! It is home to millions of immigrants from all over the world, thus a true “melting pot.” As an extremely diverse city, it is the second most visited city of Latin America.

I have spoken several times about how fun it is to wake up each morning, pull back the curtains and see a new and different sight.  Not until today (Day 42) did it occur to me that I should snap a picture each morning out our stateroom doors to document the first thing we see. Since our itinerary is for 180 days, I'm going to try to remember to do that (better late than never). Some days we wake up in different countries with views of different ports. Other days we wake and all we can see is the open sea with no land in any direction. Yesterday’s view was that of total fog – we were unable to see past our balcony. This is our view today.

outside our door - Day 42

Tonight all the 180-day folks attended something called the "Essence of Argentina." They bussed us all to a large venue for dinner and a show which consisted of traditionally costumed local musicians, singers, drummers and tango dancers. We really enjoyed it and I'll post a few random photos from tonight plus a couple of very short videos that I took that will hopefully give you some idea. I have more (different ones) but it takes too long to upload even the shortest video.

Oh, and Ronnie took his first (and probably last) tango lesson! After the show, the dancers were inviting people their guests to come up on the stage and learn the tango. Ronnie was a better sport than I was!
