Ronnie's day at Omaha Beach

It has been 80 years this year since the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overload. I'm sharing what Ronnie posted on FaceBook for my friends who are not on FaceBook, along with a few of the photos he took.

One by one, ordinary men and women became extraordinary, rising up to challenge the forces of darkness and free a world captured by evil. I saw markers for these exceptional people yesterday while walking the American cemetery off Omaha Beach. Carrying 45 pound packs, they fought to gain a foothold. The first wave suffered 95% casualties. The second, 75%. And so on until you can see the same beach today with four young girls sunbathing.  Whatever you do in life today, I hope it's an act of freedom. If so, you will honor the heroes who died here.
