I know I've talked a lot about food here, but if there's one thing you can count on for sure - there won't be a shortage of food on a cruise ship! No wonder my clothes are shrinking! In the morning there is every kind of egg dish (including omelets made to order), hot and cold cereals, fruit, beans and sausage (English breakfast), all kinds of potatoes, breads, pastries....you get the idea. And there is always, always fresh sushi at every meal (yes, that includes breakfast).
Some days the lunch or dinner menu is Asian inspired, other days Indian or Mexican. The chefs obviously try to cater to all different tastes. We have seen offerings of (entire) roasted pigs, lambs, ostrich, springbok, crocodile and just about any other kind of meat you could possibly name. Neither of us are very adventuresome when it comes to trying unusual foods but no worries. The "standbys" are always available at every meal and that includes shrimp, lobster, steak, burgers, pasta, sandwiches, hotdogs, soup, salads - pretty much anything one could possibly want to eat. Food, food and more food. And of course there's always a variety of ice cream flavors (with toppings) along with the numerous dessert choices.
And if one could possibly get hungry between meals, there's a whole array of goodies served at afternoon tea (including scones and real clotted cream) or the Wave bar for smoothies, milkshakes, cookies and snacks. And don't forget about 24 hour room service. Let me put it this way - a cruise ship is definitely not the place I'm going to lose any weight! 😬

Welcome to Brunch

So today was another brunch for the
380+ Around-the-World people. We had both forgotten about it, so I'd already eaten a breakfast muffin along with the
cappuccino Ronnie brought back to the room. And even though I wasn't
hungry, I got dressed and went down to the brunch because I wanted to see/photograph the food displays. I ended up getting
a plate of fruit with a slice of ham.

Funny story about the lady in the turquoise blouse above. Her name is Chris and her son tried to put her in a nursing home. She was having no part of that so she negotiated a price with Oceania to stay on the ship for the next 2 years! She loves people and seems to be as happy as a clam. I can understand that because it's easy to get used to someone else cooking your food, cleaning your room twice daily and doing your laundry each day.

I would take a cruise ship any day over a nursing home, pretty smart lady!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree, Susan!
DeleteMy word! Does anyone on the ship ever get to leave the kitchen. I would imagine several chefs work night and day. Magnificent carvings and gorgeous displays of delicacies. How can you ever choose? Lj
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are many chefs underneath the main one who work literally around the clock preparing this much food. There are 378 staff on board from 32 countries. I have no idea how many of those are food/beverage related. It's hard to imagine how many hours go into ordering, preparing and serving food to 578 guests daily!!
ReplyDeleteBharberts: Opulance. It reminds me of the descriptions of Henry VIII's dinners. I love to eat, and doubt I could control myself. From the looks of the lady, I doubt she could go into a nursing home...perhaps she confused assisted living with nursing home.
ReplyDeleteThe brunch was definitely quite a spread! As for Chris, she was talking to Ronnie (thus I got it 3rd hand). I probably misspoke when I said nursing home. She would not need "nursing" if she's able to be on this ship without any assistance. But it was some type of senior living facility that she wasn't willing to go to.
