Today was the perfect day at sea. The ocean was so calm that it was pretty much impossible to feel any movement of the ship. I won't say that it was glassy, but it was just one step above.
It was a relaxing day onboard. There are always planned activities around the ship throughout the day so guests can stay as busy as they like. We actually prefer to do our own thing unless it's something one of us is really interested in. Ronnie exercised (walked/ran) on the ship's fitness track and I walked for about 30 minutes (perhaps walked off that sticky bun from breakfast?) We had lunch together and then napped in our room for a little while. Though inconvenient, I think we're getting used to sharing one internet connection. Ronnie has been busy working on a research paper that he plans to submit for publication and I've been working on my BSF this afternoon - lots of reading this week! Hopefully we can both connect to our zoom groups this week.
Tonight we had dinner at one of the specialty restaurants on board - the Toscana. The food was sooo good! I wish I had snapped a photo of just the bread basket. We were offered our choice of probably 15 different kinds of olive oil. Not knowing one from another, we just let them choose. At least 5 different kinds of bread (all made onboard daily) were served along with the olive oil, balsamic vinegar and roasted garlic. After our appetizers, Ronnie had a chicken dish and I had Pacific Dover sole fish which our waitress filleted table side. Ronnie wasn't crazy about his dessert so they quickly replaced it with a different one. I ordered the dessert sampler which had small amounts of each of their dessert offerings. I have to say that the service on this ship is exceptional across the board and nowhere does it show up more than in the restaurants.
We learned this evening of another itinerary change. We will no longer be stopping in Peru due to the political protests and violence occuring there. Instead, we'll be spending 2 days in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Ronnie had booked an excursion to hike in the Pacoche National Reserve so he was a bit disappointed, but we do understand and appreciate Oceania's decision to prioritize passenger safety over itinerary changes.
By the way, we learned yesterday that there's an app that can show you where any cruise ship is anywhere in the world. Here's a link to our ship (Oceania's Insignia) if anyone is interested.

In closing, here's a photo taken from our balcony as the sun was setting before dinner. Enjoy!
Good morning from Midnight, Onyx, & SS. Onyx met me this morning covered in white "grit" meaning that he slept in his litter box last night. Such is life. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteSO?!! (lol)
DeleteYou didn't tell me that Puddy was on this trip with you. :-) I looked at your trip map and see that you are stopping at Port Canaveral. Then I looked to see how far that is from Augusta, thinking I might surprise you by meeting you on the dock. But it's more than 400 miles via I 95, so never mind. But know that the thought was there. XOXO, SS
DeleteI love the details you have included in your blog. Save Peru for a peaceful trip at a later date!
