Hola from Acapulco!

Hola is ok, but Howdy sounds so much better!

Well, did I ever predict wrong. There was never anything announced about skipping a Mexican port. People went on excursions as planned and others got off the ship and did their own thing. A couple we're friends with went to La Quebrada, the famous cliffs that people dive from. Had I known they were going there, I would have voted to go with them.

But I was very happy for Ronnie because he was actually able to run on land this morning! That is his one negative on cruising - he really misses his morning runs. Yes, he tries to run on the ship but it's not the same. Also I've had a weird headache today, so it was probably best I laid low anyway.

I snapped a few photos from our balcony and Ronnie took a few for me on the beach. The ship serves the cuisine of the area we're traveling in, so tonight was their best attempt at Mexican food. It was good, but it still can't beat our Tex Mex! After dinner we walked out on the deck to see the moon (later learned that the blood moon won't be appearing until around 2:30 a.m. so we'll have to miss this one). But it was still a treat because it was soo gorgeous - a big yellow ball hanging in the sky surrounded by passing clouds.

who are these guys?

These two guys anchored their boat maybe 600 or so feet away from our ship and stayed there almost the entire day. They were not fishing, but we finally decided they might be some type of military police. Perhaps they were looking out for us? I'm sure our ship security folks knew what they were there for.

Below are the photos that Ronnie snapped on his run.

Goodnight, Moon

Tomorrow we'll be at sea - destination Cabo San Lucas.

  1. Barbara: I'm happy Ronnie got a run in today. Does he have a list of all countries where he has run? Acapulco is about the same latitude as Hawaii, and it reminds me of Oahu so much...right down to the chickens at the beach. The photo of the ship is cool...looks like part of the city buildings until I made it bigger. The thing I missed most in Hawaii (besides family and friends) was Tex-Mex. I had to learn how to cook it and make salsa myself, and when people came to visit, I would ask for masa and Abuelita chocolate. The Whole Foods in Kailua would get skirt steak for me and my local market would call me when they got jalapeƱos in. The jalapeƱos in Hawaii grow very big fast, and they had sweetness vs heat there because it was wet on most of the island. There was finally a man Leeward who knew to hold off watering and picked at the right time. I hear Cabo is a fun place!!! Hope you feel like taking photos tomorrow.

    1. He's probably run in every country we've ever visited, but unfortunately not always on land. Running has always been his happy place! I'm impressed that you would ask friends to bring masa and Abuelita chocolate. I've never bought either one of those. I may need to get my Mexican fix at your house when we return home! ;-) It's funny the things we miss when we can't get them. I was dying for taco and chili seasonings and strawberry pop tarts when we were in Indonesia for 9 months. lol That's interesting that jalapenos have less heat in Hawaii. I would probably like those. Then I wouldn't have to wear a mask and gloves to make poppers!

  2. Woohoo- our moon was beautiful, but yours had it beat! You make each day an adventure-
ahh, today you and Barbara made cuisine an adventure. When I was having breakfast of one of my concoctions I was marveling at how the Lord designed us to enjoy such a mass array of flavors! Nothing boring about Him. Very thankful for my cruise getaway!!!!

  3. I can tell from these comments that this is Karen! ;-) Your breakfast and dinner "concoctions" always sound yummy to me! Re: "anonymous", it's not obvious how to add your name but if you keep clicking around you will figure it out. I should try to post specific instructions on exactly what to click (I don't remember now, I just had to play with it) but you can always do like Barbara and just say who it is posting. Thank you so much for coming along with us! Hugs to you and Roy!
